How to Prepare Your Kent Home for Professional Painters
Bringing in professional painters should make your life easier, not harder. A little preparation before we arrive helps the job go smoothly and can sometimes save you money. Here's a simple guide to preparing your home in Kent for a decorating project.
Talk through the plan before work starts
Before we pick up a brush, we'll have agreed:
- Which rooms we're doing and in what order
- Colours and finishes for each area
- Where we'll park, set up and wash out
- How we'll access the property (keys, alarm codes, pets, children)
If anything changes – new colours, extra rooms, timing – letting us know early helps avoid delays and keeps the quote accurate.
Clear personal items and fragile objects
We'll protect furniture and floors, but it's best if you can:
- Remove pictures, mirrors and wall mounted shelves where possible
- Clear surfaces and pack away ornaments and breakables
- Take down curtains and blinds if you're comfortable doing so
If you need help with any of this, just say – we can build it into the job.
Decide how much furniture can be moved
In smaller rooms, furniture can usually be moved into the centre and covered. In very full spaces, it may be worth temporarily moving some pieces into another room or garage to give us space to work safely and efficiently.
We'll always work with you to find a practical solution that doesn't turn your whole house upside down.
Think about pets, children and working from home
Decorating can involve open doors, dust sheets and ladders. To keep everyone safe and relaxed:
- Decide which rooms pets and children will use while we're working
- Let us know if you have important calls or online meetings so we can plan noisier tasks around them
- If you'll be away or at work, we can hold keys and send daily photo and video updates with commentary so you can see how things are progressing
What we do on arrival
Once on site we'll:
- Protect floors and large furniture
- Carry out filling, sanding and other preparation
- Prime any problem areas or new plaster
- Keep tools and materials as tidy and contained as possible
We tidy at the end of each day so you can still live in the property while the work is underway.
After the job is finished
When the decorating is complete we'll:
- Remove coverings and leave the rooms clean and ready to use
- Walk round with you to check you're happy with the finish
- Touch up any small snags straight away where possible
If you're in Kent and planning a decorating project, following this simple preparation checklist will help us work efficiently and give you the best possible result with minimum disruption.
